The good candidates are already out there.
The ballot keeps them home. Score the Vote is a nonpartisan campaign to change that one thing: let every voter rate every candidate from 0 to 10, and let the highest score win.
Score the Vote is a project of Super Citizen, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. New here? Start with how it works.
Why we’re doing this
“America is not short on leaders. It’s full of people who would govern honestly and represent all of us — people you’d be proud to vote for — and the ballot keeps them off the field before the race even starts.”
Something is wrong with how we pick our leaders, and the voting booth is where it starts. You walk in with a dozen opinions about the people on the ballot. You walk out having said one name.
That single mark does real damage. It turns every third choice into a spoiler and every independent into a wasted vote, so too many of us end up voting against somebody instead of for anybody. Good people look at that math and decide not to run.
We think the fix is a better ballot: score every candidate, add up the scores, and the highest total wins. So we explain it in plain language, share free tools for trying it at the dinner table, in your club or in a classroom, and make the whole case in a short book you can read in about an hour.
We think score voting is the best reform on the table, and we say why. But anyone working to retire the pick-one ballot, whether through ranked choice, approval or STAR voting, is on our side.
The spoiler effect has no party. Neither do we.
We never endorse or oppose candidates or parties. We don’t tell you who to vote for. We want the ballot to hear what you actually think about all of them.
The broken math cuts every way. A pick-one ballot split the right in 1912 and the left in 2000. Ranked choice eliminated a Democrat in Burlington in 2009 and a Republican in Alaska in 2022, each of whom beat every rival head-to-head. See the races
“Fixing it isn’t a left cause or a right cause. It’s maintenance.”

Who we are
Score the Vote is a project of Super Citizen, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
It was started by Chris Borgia, the author of Score the Vote. Chris Borgia writes on electoral reform and the mathematics of better elections.
How it’s funded
Two ways: people buy the book, and people donate. That’s the whole list. Donations go to Super Citizen and are tax-deductible to the extent the law allows.
